Turk's Turban Gourd
Here is the Turk's Turban Gourd, Cucurbita maxima. It is named so because it looks just like a turban that is often worn in the country of turkey. It is also referred to as French turban, Giraumon or Turban squash. This fruit is really a squash and not a gourd but will dry just like a gourd so its a little of both! This vegetable is edible and great cooked of made into soup. The fruits typically are red orange an dry brown but can have white and green in it as well! The fruits can rage from 6 inches to 10 inches and weigh as much a 5 Lbs. Vines get to 12 feet long and produce about 6 per vine but may produce more in full sun. Open pollinated 90 to 120 days.
