Here is the Purple Top White Globe Turnip, Brassica napobrassica. This turnip has dates back to the 1850's. It is a firm crisp white with purple top type turnip with a crisp slightly sweet flavor that goes good in any recipe. It can be eaten raw or cooked and make a great mash potato like dish. They can grow to about 3 to 5 inches and plants get to around 2 feet tall. Roots have purple shoulders and white bottoms. Tops are also edible. Flesh of roots is white, fine grained, sweet and mildly flavored. Best harvested at 3 to 4 inches round. Open pollinated 60 days.
