Here is the Mexican Sour Gherkin, Melothria scabra, A newly rediscovered heirloom. This mini cucumber produces abundant crops of 1 to 2 inch fruits reminiscent of tiny watermelons that fall off the vines when ripe. With a slight cucumber flavor, it has a surprising sourness as if they are already pickled. The plants can grow to 30 feet long and are thin like hair but strong. They can produce hundreds of these little fruits. if left alone it will reseed it's self every year! They are great for pickling and salads or just eating fresh. Great for growing on a trellis, Open pollinated, 60-70 days.
