Here is the Wild Japanese Pepper, Tubocapsicum Anomalum PI 501532, Scoville units: 000 SHU. This wild variety is no longer classified as a part of the Capsium genus (Capsicum anomalum) and now having recently been reclassified as part of the species Tubocapsicum anomalum (anomalum means 'unusual'). It is a herb with small yellow flowers and red berries. The berries are about 1/4 round. The species originates from Japan but is also found in southern China, Taiwan, and the Philippines. This is not a beginners pepper. Plants can get to 4 feet tall. Seed starts are sporadic an difficult to start. Seeds can take as long as 2 months to sprout! Open pollinated 100+ days.
