Nantes Coreless Carrot
Daucus carota subsp. sativus
Here is the Nantes Coreless Carrot, Daucus carota subsp. sativus. It is a bright orange carrot root with an average size of 6 inches in length and up to 1.5 inches in diameter. It was first mentioned in 1885 and has sparse foliage with a cylindrical and short blunt tip. They are brittle but crunchy and high in sugar. They don't store as well in the open as other verities but are much better when freezing them. Nantes is a great tasting, tender but crisp carrot witch make a great juicing carrot and is our top choice for juicing. Open pollinated 60 to 70 days for root harvest and 2 years for seeds.
