Here is the Takanotsume Pepper, Capsicum annuum, Scoville units: 10,000 to 250,000 SHU. This peqiun pepper originates from Japan and is also known as Hawk claw pepper. It was brought to Japan by the Portuguese in the 1800s. They are green/black then red in color when fully ripe and have a pointed pequin shape. When fully ripe they are very very soft and can dry on the plant. The plants can reach 2 feet tall and produces hundreds of peppers per plant! Pods are pungent but yet smooth while some may have very high heat to them. These go great in salads, rice & beans, and salsa! We found this to be a very productive variety and easy to grow in northern climates. Always fruits first year and can over winter. Plants can live for many years in pots and tend to stay around 18 inches tall and ornate but needs support. A must grow for any collector! Open pollinated, early to late season, red color, perennial, easy grow, 59 to 100+ days to overwinter for many years. LOT# 2 R5 TAG# 72-2022
