Here is the Plate de Haiti tomato, Solanum lycopersicum. It is also known as Hispaniola tomato and originates from the Haiti. In 1793, the Creole refugees who fled the successful uprising of enslaved people in Haiti brought this tomato with them. It was reintroduced to North America in 1992. This vermilion red tomato ranges in weight from 1 to 3 Oz and range in size from 1.2 to 2.5 inches across. Plants can get to 7 feet long in really good soil but plants tend to get to 5 feet tall. They have a sweet smooth tomato flavor with a rich tangy taste and make a great market tomato and go great in salads an sauce!
