Here is the Albenga Tomato, Solanum lycopersicum. This old time variety originates from Albenga, Northern Italy. The Albenga Tomato is also known as Cour di bue or Coeur de Boeuf Ligure. This ruffled Piriform pear tomato has a deep red toned skin and a dark red flesh inside getting to about 3+ inches across and weighting up to 1 Lb. Plants can get to 8 feet tall in really good soil but plants tend to get to 5 feet tall. The fully ripened fruits will have a deep rich color to them. Great tasting tomatoes for salads, eating fresh and especially good for tomato sauce and slicing!
