Here is the Aji Charapita Red Pepper, Capsicum chinense, Scoville units: 30,000 to 65,000 SHU. The Aji Charapita Red Pepper originates from the highlands of the Amazonas region of Peru, Ecuador and parts of Brasil. They are a green to red then after ripening. This is the true and original form of this pepper. They measure up to .6 inches across and shinny red skin. The plants can reach 3.5 feet tall and produces hundreds of peppers per plant! Pods are hotter then the yellow type and smooth while very chewy and can be dried. These go great in salads, rice & beans, stuffed and salsa! We found this to be a very productive variety and easy to grow in northern climates. Always fruits first year and can over winter. Plants can live for many years in pots and tend to stay around 24 inches tall and ornate but needs support. A must grow for any collector!
